How many people use MacroQuest?

Post by JC » Mon May 24, 2004 11:08 am

Not really asking for a real number here, just opinion.

I've been using MQ for a couple months now. I haven't been banned yet, and even if I was I wouldn't really care that much, if I did care I'd probably use SEQ for linux or something. I have come to the conclusion that SOE is not actively scanning for it anyway.

Or are they? One thing I wonder is if all MQ users were detected today, would the amount be so great that SOE would think twice before doing a mass banning? I mean, usually by the time I found out about something and actually use it there are a gazillion other people that are already doing it.

Then again, this is not the easiest progam of its type to get working so I wonder if its just being used by computer geeks. But then again, I know a LOT of computer geeks that play EQ.

Check the source, in the eqgame.ini there are a number of offsets used for disabling memory checks.
Don't be mistaken, SoE is looking for people who use this and similar programs, so always be cautious.

not really sure how to tell you a number. Not like there is a survey out there asking if people use MQ.

But if I had to guess maybe 5%. From using MQ so much lately, you can kinda tell if people are using it. From what i GUESS I would have to go with 5% which is still a pretty big number.

We see a post like this asking a similar question every few months on this board.

To answer your question, I would say that MQ2 has roughly 100 users per server on average. I would try to collect the download stats from the board admin if I wanted a more scientific answer.

Honestly, why does it fucking matter? IF Sony wanted to they could track down and nail all but the most careful user of MQ and ban them. No, even banning 50%+ of their total pool of accounts would not stop them. It is a legal matter and a matter of principle. Besides, EQ is just one of their now many many many income sources.
You break the EULA each and every time you log into the game with the intent to use macroquest for whatever reason.
If that isn't clear enough on what kind of a risk you take then don't use the program.

Quite frankly the only thing that saves MQ from being forcefully shutdown is the fact that the devs released it in open source. Saves them from facing the legal arm of the corperation... to a point.

I'm a little lost on the idea of a careful user, when i use it i never macro i only use it for SW. but i don't see how that makes me any more careful than anyone else, cause i'm still breaking the EULA

I did a survey, and the answer to the original question is: 7.
