compliling mq2 problem

Post by worzel » Tue Apr 20, 2004 12:54 pm

Hi all, first post so go easy on me :)

First time ive compiled also.

I went out and bought the full version of vis studio .net. Got it all installed okay, downloaded mq2, unzipped it, ran mq2auth, clicked on macroquest.sln and it comes up with :-

the application for c:\mq2\mq2chat\mq2chat.vcproj is not installed
make sure the application for the project (vcproj) is installed

It then repeats this for each and every project. I know Im missing something simple, and ive searched the "fucking manual" and the forums but im not getting any where.

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards :(

great program btw

Sounds like you didnt unzip with the original directory structure?

extract all to c:\mq2

Post by worzel » Tue Apr 20, 2004 3:10 pm

I chose extract all to c:\mq2 and windows xp recreates the same directory structure under that.

tried using winzip and windows xp's built in extract utility with same result. I'm not changing the directory structiure in any way.

interestingly, if i remove the projects and readd them it says :-

the project file c:\mq2\mq2bzrsrch\mq2bzrsrch.dsp has been corrupted and cannot be opened

when i first click on macroquest.sln it says something about it having to be converted to the formats used by this version of vis studio. It also goes on about converting all the projects for this version also.

thx for your previous prompt reply

Perhaps try downloading the zip again. It may be corrupt. Also try updating Visual Studio .NET @ http://msdn.microsoft.com/vbasic/downloads/updates/ if you haven't already done so. Hope this helps.

Ive tried downloading the file again but i suspected it to be okay as winzip would have complained about it being a corrupted file.

I can only surmise that it has something to do with my version of visual studio .net 2003 or maybe one final clue is that i also get an error message that says :-

the application for project c:\mq2\mq2chat\mq2chat.vcproj is not installed. Make sure the application for the project type (.vcproj) is installed.

I think that The project type is the key. Visual studio .net 2003 does not seem to know what to do with a project that ends in .vcproj

Is there something that I need to be loading first ?

the above happens when i right click each of the projects in the solution explorer and click on reload. Currently all the MQ2 projects are showing as unavailable

vis studio .net 2003

Post by worzel » Wed Apr 21, 2004 11:20 am

I checked the vis studio updates page and their are no updates for vis studio 2003.

Has anyone else tried compiling using vis studio .net 2003 ?

... *nods*
The problem, best I can see, is that Visual Studio didn't install properly. Uninstall and try again. If the problem persists, contact Microsoft.

Ive installed vis studio at work with exactly the same results as those at home.

I have followed the vis studio on line walkthrough into creating a program which uses a database of customers against orders and displays them on screen with show orders button etc. This compiled and ran fine.

therefore vis studio must be installed correctly.

heres what I found on microsoft technet

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/defau ... roject.asp

the files dont appear corrupted nor are they read only (i can make changes to them via notepad and save the changes), and i am on a standalone pc so cant be network issue.

If I were going to throw you a rope, it would be in the hopes that it were heavy enough and thrown hard enough to crush your skull.

If you cannot compile MQ2, the problem is on YOUR end in YOUR software or hardware. If you're getting corrupt file errors, you need to check your hard drive and possibly your RAM. Beyond that, CALL MICROSOFT. They pay people to tell you how to make it work for you when it already works for everybody else.

hey thanks for the friendly advice magictiger,

I just hope you have a problem one day and log it on this board coz O boy am i gonna rip you apart you sad sap. Now go to bed its way too late for little boys.

For the rest of you I think ive sorted the problem Ive been trying to compile MQ2 using visual basic (censor: i'm an idiot; please ignore me) .NET rather than Visual C .NET. So anyone whos new to all this make sure you dont waste £80.00 and get the right compiler.

Thanks to all those that tried to help.
