ShowEQ is totally Passive, there is no way Verant can "detect" it. Whoever they can watch you, while you are playing and infer form things YOU do and say, that you are using ShowEQ. This has always been the case, if you are not careful you're basically telling Verant you are using it.

Has anyone ever did a npc check up in the plane of hate. I did the other day and there were several mobs with names that make fun of ShowEQ. Just wondering if they do this kind of thing in alot of zones cause this was the first time I noticed it.

Can you send a tell to a GM even if he's invis/anon?
The guy could have sent a misc tell from a 2nd account which checks for GM's online and it wouldn't violate the EULA. Also it is possible that a GM becomes visible for a split second when he zones or you zone. I've seen many times when I zone and see invis people for a split second or have sat at a zone and see invis people who zone in for a split second.

ok, when you listen on a interface (like showeq does) it puts linux into promiscuous mode - this can be detected if you know how. If VI have done it so they can detect a machine in that mode (which doesn't mean it's running showeq - programs like tcpdump snort and others put it into promiscuous mode as well) - it would be illegal ..
One for the Road guys, what's the worst that could happen......

this is BS - there is no way for verant to detect on a network where pcs are all behind a nat'd address. sure they could attempt to run something from your PC, but that would be very dodgy for them and i doubt they really wory that much about SEQ users.

A simple solution would be to setup netfilter to not allow outgoing traffic. There is no way to detect if a computer is promiscuous, unless you sent some sort of program onto that computer to detect it, and then sent that info back to Verant. Which would be illegal, unless they put a clause in the EULA allowing them to do such a thing. Even then, blocking outgoing traffic on the ShowEQ machine would solve this problem.
