Odd desktop crashing.

Post by Eloasti » Tue Feb 24, 2004 8:06 am

Hi!

I've just installed MQ2 on my computer, and I have this odd problem.
If I start up MQ2 first, then proceed to load EQ i'll get to char select screen, and hit enter world, the EQ window (using EQW) goes black and then crashes without a message...

If I start by loading up EQ and log in, then start up MQ2 it works fine.

Any ideas at all on this?

I've seen this one before myself. Usually just following a patch. The first time you run the updated MQ you'll get a lock.

Run MQ, Run EQ --> crash or lock

Run EQ, Run MQ --> everything fine.

For some strange reason, however, it will usually work properly after the first lock out.

Run MQ, Run EQ --> lock

Run MQ, Run EQ --> works fine till the next patch.

So it only does the lock/crash thing once, then will work correctly until EQ is patched again.

No idea what causes this behavior. I just let it do its one crash, get it out of the way, and then never have that problem again.

My problem, though, is that the problem persists.
It will keep doing this for no obvious reason.

Thansk though :)

I had this problem a long time ago with macroquest 1 and I had to update video drivers and then everything was fine....just a thought.

Spirali has a point.

MQ screws with memory inside of EQ, so if EQ even comes close to conflicting with something else MQ just might push it over the edge.

Make sure your drivers are up to date. Also something I do, even though I'm not sure it is necessary, is rerun the DirectX installer AFTER you update your drivers. That has fixed a few problems for me in the past.

I had a similar problem after Christmas and I think it was DKAA that figured out that I needed to remove the bmpwad8.s3d from my MQ2/release folder.

This is the MQ2-modified splash screen during load up , and it doesn't like computers that are running in 800x600 rez.

Give that a try.
