Tastefull Avatars

Post by DrMadd » Sat Jan 31, 2004 10:05 am

Small request,

I often brows the MacroQuest forums at work.. And being that my activity at work goes through a proxy and COULD be monitored... And while seeing an avatar of a naked woman shaking her jugs is fun and all, its NOT something that I need to see while at the office.. Nor do I need it saved on my work computer "cached".

Any chance you all can limit Avatars to PG-13 to moderate R at the worst? Some of these avatars seem you would need parental consent or be over 18 to view...

I know there are steps to take to clean a comp, delete cache and what not... But there shouldn't be a need when viewing this site.. IMHO...

The answer is no. There will be no limits to the avatars.

It also causes me problems. While I do respect peoples freedom to post/display whatever they want, it is kind of annoying at times. I'm usually at work or at school and there's no way I can check the forums here for fear of getting that icon in my cache.

While I realize the mods don't want to take it down, and I realize that the icon in question is being left up (probably just to annoy people like the original poster), it would be nice if it was something at least a little more PG-13.

(Before people start saying don't show images and etc., I have to show images at school b/c I can't change a damn thing on those computers. At work I do graphics design for our company's website, so the boss would think it was kind of strange if he came in and saw a web page with no graphics.)

This is what you need:

1. Download Firebird from: http://www.mozilla.org/products/firebird/

2. Save the code below as userContent.css in one of several locations. (Just search for userContent-example.css and put this in the same directory everywhere you find it.)

Code: Select all

/*
 * Edit this file and copy it as userContent.css into your
 * profile-directory/chrome/
 */

/*
 * This file can be used to apply a style to all web pages you view
 * Rules without !important are overruled by author rules if the
 * author sets any. Rules with !important overrule author rules.
 */

/*
 * example: turn off "blink" element blinking
 *
 * blink { text-decoration: none ! important; }
 *
 */

/*
 * example: give all tables a 2px border
 *
 * table { border: 2px solid; }
 */

/*
 * example: turn off "marquee" element
 *
 * marquee { -moz-binding: none; }
 *
 */

/*
 * For more examples see http://www.mozilla.org/unix/customizing.html
 */

/* Block Ads v.2003-12-09 by Neil Jenkins
   Portions of this ruleset are derived from the ad blocking css by Joe Francis at:
   http://www.floppymoose.com/
   Some code also contributed by Mike Hokenson:
   http://www.gozer.org/mozilla/ad_blocking
*/

img[src$="images/avatars/10833090464003235d7cedb.gif"]
{
        display: none !important;
}
3. Just put an entry like this: img[src$="images/avatars/10833090464003235d7cedb.gif"] below the existing one for each avatar that would get you in trouble at work.

This blocks the avatars from even being downloaded.

I already use firebird, but wasn't aware of blocking specific images. Nice to know, thanks for the tip :)

Now if I could just find a way to actually get around all the security at school to do it there too :).

Gary Coleman
Yeah, was thinking his in tv name... its Arnold Jackson, and i wasted 20 seconds of my life looking for his name on the web.

CHIPS must DIE !!!!

If they ever make a re make movie of Chips I will forever stop watching movies. I will loose all faith in the movie bussiness once and for all ... bad enough doing a Starsky and Hutch

Yeah, but the afkxper's avatar shows no skin. Only a little rubbing, which I appreciate. :-D
