FEAT IDEA: In game web browser

Post by MacroFiend » Wed Nov 05, 2003 1:35 pm

We know that STML supports linking. We know that we can output text to an STML window ...

How about ... adding either a locally available STML browser (similar to the story window in function) that we can redirect to a regular website?

I know that any page pulled down would have to go through a conversion to get to STML (change font calls to <c > for color etc) but it would be interesting to have access to the macro depot in game. (Even if you can't cut and paste ... yet)

Go go feature bloat...

IMO, as a simple user, I'd vote no to adding this if it came to a vote. Not that the idea is bad, or way out in left field, but why add in browser functionality, when you can already alt-tab to an open browser? Adding something like this will just introduce additional bloat to the program, additional code to maintain, and possibly introduce more bugs into the codebase.

I mostly agree with TI on this one. Especially with the FPS limiter, browsing in another window is 100% fine with me :) While I could see uses for in-game browsing for some stuff... it's more pain than it's worth to implement.

You have alot of great ideas MF, but I'm really against this. Lets keep the advancement of MQ focused on what it does best, macros.

macros... and in game UI extensions! :) But not web browsing.. just think.. people would start asking for pop-up blocking and tabbed browsing

Was an idea ;) Thought I'd throw it out and see what the feedback was.

One thing I wouldn't mind (and most of the macro writers might appreciate) would be having the readme.html converted to STML so it can be put inside the regular story window. (in game reference for MQ) and wouldn't actually do anything to the MQ code.

It is probably pretty close to workable now (as long as it isn't an MS Office doc that was saved as HTML since MS adds all sorts of crap to their HTML output)

I think Xylobot has an in-game web browser... I played with that program briefly, and I seem to remember the resulting lag made both the game and the browser unuseable.

Yeah, Xylo does have a browser built in. But I dont suggest using it.
