Strange disconnects at certain times (not MQ related)

Post by nimblefoot » Mon Nov 03, 2003 3:56 pm

I 4-box at home using Macroquest and one of my two computers has recently been disconnecting every single day, without fail, around 6:48ish pm. Only one computer has this happen - so it's not my IP, probably not my router, and doubtfully Macroquest. On Saturday I woke up really early to play, and, to my surprise (and horror) I disconnected at 6:49 am. So...every twleve hours..what the hell is going on?

Could it possibly be something in my scripts? I have defragged, virus scanned, disabled auto-update, and checked to make sure Cacheman, my RAM program, wasn't doing any scheduled nonsense. I have no other tasks running.

I am running EQW on a 1ghz 384 RAM machine with WinXP Home.

Reformatting looks sooo good right now. If anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear them before cleaning out the old hard drive.

Thanks for any help.

Ohhh I just remembered...could doing the ConservativeSwapFileUsage=1 thing in MSConfig possibly be the culprit? I was told it was a useful tweak...now that I think about it the timeframe fits. I'll have to wait for 6:48 to see though. =)

I have five machines that run EQ. Two of which crash in EQGAME.EXE at the same time. Never at the same time of day, but they always crash together to Desktop. The other three never crash

Maybe its harmonics? The two machines that crash are the north most two in my house.

Nothing under Scheduled Tasks in the Control Panel.

Chances are it's something like that...but sheesh, this is so puzzling.

Some games add a patch checker, run regedit and check your run and services

Wow....after reformatting it is STILL happening!

Anyone have an option? Might messing with the datarate in datarate.txt help? I heard that if you set it higher it'll take longer to time out..but does that have any negative side effects?

Sheesh...heh, thanks for any help you might offer.
