my two cents ( because this is a free country )

Post by sfiusmc » Sun Jan 23, 2005 11:29 am

well im glad some people got the point of my post. Others started "flaming" witch is just proving my point. I was NOT trying to start a fight at all. I put the post in after using the search feature for more then 2 hours , and not being able to find what I was looking for. What i did find was alot of posts from "Newbs" like me that probably broke down from fatigue , and posted a question. Then to add to there trouble instead of an answer they get torn up by a bunch of people calling them newbs and telling them to RTFM. I am very new to this , but im here trying to learn and I will say the manual is not very helpfull to anyone who is just strating out, or does not have programming background. Things come easier to some then others , people just need to understand that and not be so quick to "flame" people just cuzz they are sick of seeing repeated posts. THAT was my point of the post . Flame away if you must , like I said before whatever helps you sleep at night.

That's how it goes here. Do you think you're pointing out a previously unrealized occourance? Perhaps you think something you say will change the way people here respond to others? No. You know exactly what your post will do. You posted to stir people up, which really makes you no better than the others.

Well looking at your previous post that got locked, I dont see any real flames. So I dont understand your point. As for trolling, it does seem to me that you are looking to prove something here, or atleast trying to get banned from the site. Ethier way with this crowd you are going to get your wish.

My suggestion is do what I did.. Just be helpfull to people and find the helpfull people. You will find that even some of the biggest flammers on this site are actually quiet helpfull, just depends on the phase of the moon I guess.

And also remember that these are just other users like yourself. They dont have to be nice. They dont have to help you. And if they do help you then consider yourself lucky enough to have pulled on one of thier heart strings.

But I wouldnt post anymore of these threads would be my advice to you. If Lax locks a thread that just means he doesnt want to hear about it. And just starting a new one sometimes invokes the wrath of banning.
And remember, if I said something to offend you it is only becuase I hate you. -- My Mom.
If you can't find it odds are you didn't bother looking. -- My Mom.
Why do I bother, your just stupid. -- My Mom.
Hmm maybe mom didnt love me?

What he said, for the most part ;)

People are people. Active members of the community/forums don't generally get flamed, because theyre the ones that have been helping people, posting modifications to scripts, script bug reports, etc. On the other hand, when someone makes no effort to help themselves or anyone else or their very 1st post says "everyone is so quick to flame, whatever helps you sleep at night you fucking losers! get a life" etc (I'm aware you didn't put those words in your post, I'm helping you out here since you left them out on accident), and then their 2nd post is "my first post got locked, BUT YOU ARE ALL ASSHOLES FOR FLAMING EVERYONE" -- again, helping you out -- what the hell do you expect?

How are you NOT going to get flamed? You didnt even post a question!

Look at the top page of MQ2::Help posts. Here's what got flamed:
- "Can someone send me this file, blah blah sendthisfile.com"
- "I'm trying to compile MQ2, I get 'application not installed'"
- "I want a certain macro, but I HAVENT LOOKED IN THE MACRO DEPOT"
- "Incorrect client version messages" (this gets flamed every patch)
- "I compiled it but i dont see spawns on the map and I read the entire manual except for the part about the map"
AND
- "why is everyone so quick to "flame " everyone here"

There are plenty of legitimate questions that received legitimate answers. Yours is not one of them.

Sorry for causing trouble

Post by sfiusmc » Sun Jan 23, 2005 10:15 pm

I am new to this , but I want to learn and im gratefull to anyone who would bother to help me . I was not trying to start trouble or"troll" I was just frustrated as im sure most of you have been at times. Thank you to those that took my post for what it was , and to those who saw it as nothing more then a way to pick a fight or stir up a hornets nest , all I can say is sorry. That was not my intent at all. Keep up the good work , I really enjoy MQ . Again sorry for any trouble.

You will get flamed if:

You ask for help before searching for the topic you seek an answer to.
You ask for help on a subject already covered in a sticky.
You ask for someone to basicly do "it" what ever it may be for you before you try it your self.
You ask for pre-compiled anything.
You ask for/post wares.
You ask for hacks, if you can not find them your self then you do not need them.
You post hacks/plugins etc that do not belong here.
You post stupid nonsence or troll the boards.
You post ideas stolen from others and claim credit.

You might get help if:

You ask for assistance on a problem not covered 1000x before on the boards.
You search, find nothing, search again, again find nothing, then ask for help..

Many of us are willing to help answer questions if they are good questions. I am not going to answer a question that has been answered 100 times before.

Hrm, didn't notice the title before. I'd like to add to what Cr4zyb4rd said. First of all the internet isn't located strictly in the US (nor is the US free but thats another topic of debate). Secondly this has nothing to do with indivduals rights to freedom of speach and such. If the owner of this board decided to edit your post to whatever they like, delete the post, or simply ban you then that is totally up to them. You have no rights here. Be thankful if you get help with MQ2 and if you don't then learn from your experiance (or hopefully read the board :gasp: and learn from other's mistakes).

Perspective of a hopeful newbie

Post by Mystic_Blue » Mon Jan 24, 2005 5:07 pm

I have been reading these forums for several weeks, but until recently I did not have vs.net ( nor vc ) so I was not able to actually try any thing.

I had the experiance of looking and looking, trying and trying to get things to run, with little success.

However, I was very hesitant to post a request for help. Because of some of the STRONG reactions.

I even sent a PM to one of the more helpful persons on in the forums, but after 2 days, they had not responded, and I suspected they just had not checked in during that time.

After posting a ignorant, noob question, the first 2 responses WERE pleasant AND gave the answer that I needed.

As it turns out, the answer I was looking for WAS posted in the forums, AND in fact it was in the NOOBS BEST FRIEND guide, which I had read more than once, and still I had just failed to understand it. Input overload, I suspect.

The point I am trying to make is that for us noobs, there is ALOT to assimilate from the very beggining, to the extent that even a person who has diligently attemped to help them self first can still asked very ignorant (ignorant as opposed to stupid. Ignorant = lack of knowledge, stupid = lack of inate mental capacity) questions.

On the other hand, in defense of the more notorious flamers, even the more curt responses were neither flames nor unhelpful.

So a hint to the noobs, my experiance seems to indicate if you request for help shows that in fact you have ATTEMPTED to figure it out, and ask the question in such a way as to illustrate it, then you will be better treated by the experts.
