Mage Class-Based Focus/Armour Summoning

Post by endymion » Mon Oct 18, 2004 9:57 am

This is a repost from back in the MQ1 days. Still sortof working on this macro, but I (still) suck at coding. So here we go....*looks around for Elric before posting...*
I sometimes like to sit in the POK on my mage and just summon items for newbs and hend them out, but it gets really tedious summoning all the focus items, a few weapons, and a bag of armor by hand....id really appreciate it if someone can write up a macro that does the following-

-Detects whether the target is 'caster' or 'tank'
-Summons a Dimensional Hole/Pocket and stuffs the appropriate items into it
-Summons Phantom Plate/Phantom Chain/Phantom Leather depending on what they can wear classwise
-Puts the two bags into my inventory so I can hand them to my target newbie

Any help on this would be much apprecited....I am RTFM and I am so totally lost...if someone could take their time and maybe PM me with a few pointers on how to write something like this myself, it would be even more appreciated. Thanks!

We can't help you if you don't post what you have for a macro so far. You've been working on this since March, I'd expect at least something in the way of code in that time. You can also refer to this thread for the logic needed in the macro. It may be pre-parms help. but the thought process is the same.

I didn't say you were at fault,
I said I was going to blame you.

its great that he posts his chars in his sig also :P

but honestly I play a mage, i've almost never been asked for phantom armor. All anyone ever wants is pet weapons and 90% of time dont specify which they want (fist for lowbie or sword for higher, and new ones needing an even higher pet). A lovely spell called "Summon: Jewelry Bag" will save you tons of time, I would level for that :P

I suppose you could make a macro for each instance though but you would have to manually run it.

i do it manually :P people get pissed for some reason begging for free pet items and you give them blades for their little pathetic lvl 10 pet. Now i remember why im /role all the time.....

But yeah, no matter what the hell I post, I seem to get flamed. Which is a good thing, cos now I simply post without fear! I won't respond with sarcasm...I won't....

Endymion says, with great restraint, "Thank you for the information, Night Hawk. It is very much appreciated."

The point still stands that if you did any searching at all, you would have a base to build upon. You don't have to magically learn coding. Modify things that are already close to what you want is a wonder place to start ! That's how I started, and I'm sure most others.

I tried to modfy 'Hunter.mac' to suit my mage and necro needs, rather than just snag one of the 'necrohunter.mac' clones that seem to keep popping up. I have a basic understanding of the way the new MQ2 coding structure, but doing anything beyond making little popups with '<mobname> has spawned in zone' is beyond me. When I get home I'll post my *nonworking* necro/magehunter.mac in the help section and you can dissect it.

The main problem I think I have is- I have no clue what I'm doing, so when I try to alter pre-existing macros, errors abound. What I tried to do with hunter.mac was put in a little sub that would make your pet attack if you had one, then /echo '<petname> has joined the fight!', but it ended up spamming the attack command, making Jibober or whoever spam 'attacking soandso master'.

What I'd to to solve that is that every time I /pet attack I would save the ID of the mob I attacked. Then before attacking I would check the saved ID against ${Target.ID} and only attack if they're different.

Did you see the link I posted above? It's a mage macro that's already been made for almost exactly what you want. If you wantd to add to it you could post in that thread. Hands down, I don't see what's so hard about that.
