In game lag

Post by Flea » Thu May 06, 2004 9:57 am

With latest zip I have been noticing an increased amount of "stop and go" lag where every 6 seconds or so the game will freeze for half a second and then continue on like normal until the next 6 second interval. Wondering if anyone else is having a problem similar to this.

I recompiled last zip.. tested it on raid.. 4 hours straight... no problems.
Download and recompile it again.

It might help solve the problem, if there is one, by giving a just a little more freaken information.
increased amount of "stop and go" lag
Doesn't tell anyone anything. You running a macro? Which one? Custom plugin? Custom UI? /mapfilter PC show in bazaar with 612 players?

I had the same type of "stop and go" lag just after they added the new captions. I just removed the custom captions for pcs and the lag is gone.

If you are in the middle of 45734985 players, such as in bazaar, this would be an issue. There is a distance check of 75 distance units to reduce the lag, but the problem is EQ wants to update them pretty fucking often and for no apparent reason ;)

I'll do some work on it and improve it. If you're raiding or whatnot you should remove the captions or switch to a lower setting.. e.g. /shownames 1

Sars UI with mq mod.

Ikkinz raid 40 people.

Was receiving lag even when no one was around.

The stop and go is just how I explained it, it will freeze for a half a second every six seconds or so.

Never had this problem before this last zip.

Oops forgot to mention, removed captions, fraction of a second freeze is still there.

How, very specifically, do you remove the captions?

The way I removed all the extra stuff, Guild tag, guild status, surname, etc etc etc was by changing:

Code: Select all

Player4=${If[${NamingSpawn.Trader},Trader ,]}${If[${NamingSpawn.AARank},${NamingSpawn.AATitle} ,]}${If[${NamingSpawn.Invis},(${NamingSpawn.DisplayName}),${NamingSpawn.DisplayName}]}${If[${NamingSpawn.Surname.Length}, ${NamingSpawn.Surname},]}${If[${NamingSpawn.AFK}, AFK,]}${If[${NamingSpawn.Linkdead}, LD,]}${If[${NamingSpawn.LFG}, LFG,]}${If[${NamingSpawn.GroupLeader}, LDR,]}${If[${NamingSpawn.Guild.Length}, <${If[${NamingSpawn.GuildStatus.NotEqual[member]},${NamingSpawn.GuildStatus} of ,]}${NamingSpawn.Guild}>,]}
to:

Code: Select all

${If[${NamingSpawn.Trader},Trader ,]}${If[${NamingSpawn.Invis},(${NamingSpawn.DisplayName}),${NamingSpawn.DisplayName}]}${If[${NamingSpawn.AFK}, AFK,]}${If[${NamingSpawn.Linkdead}, LD,]}${If[${NamingSpawn.LFG}, LFG,]}${If[${NamingSpawn.GroupLeader}, LDR,]}
Since I am unsure how to delete the captions plugin or feature of the program, I just took out all the extra things it was displaying. I realised that the client may still be receiving said "displayed/hidden" information which would still cause lag, so please do enlighten me.

well, thats what /shownames command is for actually but
in order to make it EQ's default you can just clear it so it says Player4=
in the ini

/shownames 1 only shows players 1st names
/shownames 2 adds their last name
/shownames 3 adds guild tag
/shownames 4 adds AA title
(this has been around in EQ since pop)

So, if you type
/caption player4
the setting for shownames 4 will be eq's default (which in turn eliminates the lag you are experiencing). It does what i said you could do to the ini for you.

so.. either "/caption player4" or edit the ini to say "Player4="
