Checking Spell Book Status

How do you check and see if your spell book is open?

The problem I have is that when I want to mem a spell if I call /memspell twice without doing something else it just skips right to the second one and doesn't execute the first one. I could just put a /delay in but since different spells take different times to mem I'd like to only wait the exact amount of time required.
