help with accents

Post by bartab » Wed Mar 17, 2004 5:37 am

hi,
I've no problem running MQ2 so maybe this is not the right place to post, I maybe should do it in Macro Help.
:roll:
I use MQ2 on the french server and have a question related to accents.
Yesterday I was farming Veksar with friens trying to make this golem behemoth pop.

I had the macro spawncheck.mac running but it hasn't told me that the golem pop.
in my span.ini file I had the following :

[Settings]
Beep=ONCE
Log=ON
[Veksar]
Spawn0=behemoth

But the french name has accents : "béhémoth" so it was normal I hadn't been advertized of his pop. We killed it easily....
So I made an update of my spawn.ini file :

[Settings]
Beep=ONCE
Log=ON
[Veksar]
Spawn0=behemoth
Spawn1=béhémoth

Unfortunatly the second time he poped, no tell from the macro...
I should add that this macro is perfectly running on mobs without accents.
So I'm pretty sure this comes from there but whitout being able to handle with this problem..
Any idea of accents behaviour in MQ2, especially in .ini files?

Since you were a little off topic, I'll continue the trend. Why would they change the spelling of a mob? Do they want the french and english speakers to all pronounce it the same?

Hopefully someone will have a reply. I suspect it's has something to do with the compair that MQ uses on letters. It would seem to me that the accented "e" just isn't in the list they used, but then I could be completely wrong.

I don't know why SoE (in fact Ubisoft who aquired the Fench liscence/distribution) does that, but some mobs names are translated in french, and unfortunatly sometimes with accents.
Eq_nutzer faced this kind of problems in german version with Umlauts, in this thread but I don't see a clear answer to handle it.
any idea :?:
