Special Problem...

Hmm...I have a Windows XP box as my primary EQ station, and I used to use MacroQuest with it all the time under the old UI. Recently, I have been using the newUI exclusively (a couple weeks) without using the oldUI at all..and without MacroQuest.

Now, when I go and change to NewUI=FALSE, everything loads up correctly, but both EQ and MQ are buggy as hell..in fact, I'm seeing a lot of things from my windows desktop "peeping" through to the EQ screen.

I know that my MQ is good because I have another computer (running the old UI) on which it is running like a dream under the new UI.

Suggestions?

Does anyone know how to install a second copy of EQ on a Win xp machine from CD? When I try it, it tries to either "repair" the problem or will just exit out from install when it discovers that EQ is already installed!

I know that my MQ is good because I have another computer on which it is running like a dream under the new UI.

Lucky... the New UI causes MQ to crash every ~10 minutes for me.

Just make a copy of the Everquest directory... at the moment i have 4 Copies on my HD... one with all settings to play normal, one for eqemu, one for the test server and one which i only patch when the other three are working fine.

Obviously, there is something about my current setup that doesn't work with the old UI though (I've been using the new UI exclusively for weeks). If I change newUI=FALSE, then the game has tons of bugs and nothing works right (and that carries over into any directory copies that I make).

That's why I was thinking that the only way to get a clean copy of EQ that willwork with the old UI is to do a new install; however, I'm not willing to lose my current setup, if that makes any sense.

Rename your existing everquest directory to EQNewUI. Then Reinstall. now you have your current setup in the EQNewUI directory and the new "fresh" copy in the regular EQ install location/directory...

if you want to reinstall and not lose character settings just copy out the <playname>_<number>.ini files out of the eq dir, and copy them back in after reinstall.

I am getting this problem too. Everything was fine until the build after the new UI came out. I even re-installed EQ completely. Took ages to DL all the patches but it made absolutly no difference. I think something to do with DirectX changed in the build after the new ui came out that is causing this but I have no idea what or even how to debug the problem. I have tried different drivers for my GF4 with no difference. I hoped that the new build would soves this problem but nothing has changed. This is a shame cause I though that Macroquest had great potential. I have gone back to using Xylobot which whilst no where near as functional as MQ it does work.

OK After my previous Rant (Long day, to much beer, screaming kids n'a ll). I Had a thought `Maybe if i use EQW it will work properly`. So i downloaded EQW and tried again an Bugger me if it didnt work. I dont know if there are any performance hits with using EQW but I can live with it :-))

make sure that the bitdepth in windows = bitdepth in eqw = 16 bits.
