Event for "too far away" message ?

Post by blueninja » Thu Sep 25, 2003 7:51 pm

I've been trying to catch the message you get when trying to hit a mob that is out of melee range "Your target is too far away, get closer!" with an event like this:

Code: Select all

#event TooFar "too far away"

Sub Event_TooFar
 ....
/return

For some reason this never triggers, I make a call to /doevents in the loop that is running at the time (I have other events that do trigger) still it won't run. Is there something special about that message?

Anyone care to help me out?

Thanks

Try

Code: Select all

#event TooFar "Your target is too far"

sub Event_TooFar
.....
/return
Could be because you aren't looking for the first few words in the message it isn't seeing them.

I tried that too, still didn't work. Other events work without the full text too, both these are from my script and they trigger:

Code: Select all

#event tellsyou "tells you"
#event CondemnationHit "staggers from condemnation."

Hmmm... you actually see the message "too far away" right?

That's one of the one's I have filtered out in my macroquest.ini file, which means I never get the message in my chat box, which means it wouldn't trigger....

What I'm trying to say is check your filters, make sure you have that message turned on.

I dont know if this can be the your case, but i had some problems too with events in the past. In my case, the problem was I had a var name that matched the event text.
ie

Code: Select all

 #define too v1
and

Code: Select all

 #event "You are too far away"
What happens is that when the message "You are too far away" appears in EQ chat, MQ substitute the word "too" with the variable v1, making the text appears as "You are v1 far away". So, the event never trigged.

The match can be also for a part of the text:

Code: Select all

 #define to v1

Code: Select all

 #event "You are too far away"
In this case, very similar with my real problem, the text MQ will analize for the #event will be "You are v1o far away". So, no event also in this case.

I hope this can help you.
