Need help with the /press u statement to open a merchant.

Post by skysurf » Mon Sep 15, 2003 2:09 am

Ok, this has me completely befuddled.

In some place such as PoK the statement /press u opens a merchant with no problems.

Well, hold on, let me give you some good backround info in case it helps.
/press u ALWAYS opens a merchant in PoK. I tried it in kelethin and it worked once and then it ceased working (your guess is as good as mine and this is the reason for this post).

Does anyone have any info on /press u and why it works in some places sometimes and doesn't work in other places other times?

I am pulling my hair out here, ive been trying to troubleshoot this for like a week. If you use /click left merchant while on a horse, its all a matter of geometry and making sure your mouse cursor clicks the right spot and it RARELY works correctly, and it also causes a funky 3 second lockup I haven't figured out yet.

Bah, i'll stop rambling now and wait for a response to see if anyone has any good info for this.

Any response would be appreciated.

the lockup is caused by MQ "faking" a click on different points of the screen until it "finds" a spot that will click the target. The number of pixels it skips in this search is dependant on your display resolution... the higher your res, the wider the gap between attempted clicks. While on a mount, your mount takes up a lot of clickable space, so you generally must get right on the target in order for the click to work on the target, and this is why it locks up for so long.

I've seen /press U work ... and I've seen it not work ... all with the same merchant (even in PoK).

From what I've been able to surmise, it working is based on 1) how close you are to the merchant, 2) if you are facing him w/in a certain margin for error and 3) if there is another "usable" object between you and the merchant (like another player).

As a large creature (barbarian/iksar/vah shir/troll/ogre) looking straight ahead, I make sure I can see the merchant's knees (except for shorties) and use a /face to look at them dead-on. In those cases, it almost always works.
