[BUG] Ukun Bloodfeaster

There has been a long standing bug in Txevu with the Stonemite event, aka Ukun Bloodfeaster. When the stonemites pop my screen basically freezes up for a good 5 minutes until the event is over, not even 1 FPS but total freeze. Now Imay run an older pc which probably isn't up to the standards of most other people I have talked with a friend and he too experiences the same problem on his much better pc. Unloading Macroquest during the event fixes the problem and there is virtually no lag.

Apologies if this has been posted before I did look.

What video card?

If it's an nVidia, and you aren't using 56.72 drivers, you might get video freezes.

I had this problem with my Ti4800 and the latest nVidia drivers. Once I changed back to 56.72 after talking to EQ Tech Support, the problem went away.

I honestly have no clue there Sparr.

When I use a bard, I have AE kited up to 64 mobs without that happening to me.

Maybe particle settings, resolution, textures... could be a bunch of stuff that affects that.

1. datarate.txt : if on cable set it to 9.0 , if on dsl set it to 7.0
2. particles off
3. sky off
3. filter out any in-necessary text

Can go from there

Are you parsing a lot of incoming chat?

Maybe try with EQ's logging turned off (if it's on) and kill some spell messages. And server-side message filtering if it's not on.

Something else to consider...

If you have AV running, it does check log everytime it is accessed to update it. McAfee cannot be set to ignore a single file, or directory and subs however, Norton can. This has done me a lot of good in reducing sudden lag spikes. It does not remove all, but it definately helps a lot.

i dont have a macro running, i dont have particles on, i dont have EQ logging turned on. sky is off. datarate is set properly.

the only thing i havent tried is serverside filtering, is there some way to make the server filter out the 'bar is smacked down by some spell' and 'foo did xxx damage to bar' messages?

Running a Virus Scanner while running EQ in the first place is a mistake IMO. Especially if your getting lag.

yeah not like someone is going to send you a virus through eq
haha

always amazes me when people are like "no i wont disable my virus scan, what if i get a virus?!"

I keep my AV going 100% of the time as well as my Norton Internet Security. I have had no problems doing so, but then again I have my AV set to ignore the logs directory of EQ.

Now, if all you are doing is running MQ2 and EQ and not windowing out and running other apps, etc. and thus in no danger of getting infected... yeah right that's been proven to be possible still with that sasser worm, then you most certainly could, concevably, turn off your AV, if you deem the risk low enough to do so.

As with anything else, there is a risk vs reward here. It is up to the individual to figure out what works best for them with as much good information as possible.

Seems to be a graphics issue to me, have had numerous problems like this. Some of it may be winEQ related and seems to be better with the newer version I got. People I know also having these issues mostly in GoD zones, not sure what type of mods or what not they are using for eq. I noticed this badly in the first one group BiC event in Quinimi. First time I did the event the lag or performance was very bad, could barely do the event and lost. Most of the group experienced this. Second time when we went back right after most the others in group didn't notice. For me it was fine till the wave popped then it happened again, not as bad and soon as the wave was down it was gone. Each wave it happened (waves are only 3 mobs). When trial ends it was gone. But happens randomly running about in GoD zones, bad screen lag or freezing up for several seconds, happens with just two instances or just a single one. My box has plenty of power to run single instance np and does very good with two. Never have tried without MQ etc so can't relate if it is related or anything but I suspect it is the drivers or eq since a lot of people that have this problem that I know are not running MQ. I have the driver mentioned above, didn't realize there was a newer version. Gonna try the newer version today.

I think it's related to wineq (older version before it was moved)
maybe not the cause of it tho.

I'm running 2 chars per machine (each in it's own dir)

Pent4 3.xx fsb 800 level 2 cache , 4g ram , sata hd, ati 9800xt or X800 xt. asus p4c800-e deluxe (20 of them)

sometimes I'd goto fire, char in background would be 1 FPS.
same with natimbi(sp)

I'd have to kill it, and restart the game over. Sometimes the machines.

Running eqwindows or just sony version. I never get that.

haven't upgraded to newest wineq yet.
