Getting full item description text

I need to get the full text description of an item (all the text you get when you inspect an item)
I ve looked into MQ2Itemdisplay. I understand how you detour the setitem function but since it s a member of a class I don t understand how to call it for any item.
Is there an other function that give the same text ? Or could you post a code snipet to show me how to do it ?
