Good Places to Chant Kite or AE Kite

Post by Raebis » Sat Dec 13, 2003 7:48 pm

Being a bard I love to kite stuff cause i dont' get hit, and i kill stuff quick.

Let me know of good places to kite at - meaning not a lot of hills/cliffs, something that has a big open area without a lot of NPCMerchants, or things like that.

What would be good for a level 52?

You'll probably get a ton more help over at http://www.eqdiva.com/

This was found in the swarm kiting post.

http://pub142.ezboard.com/feqdivabardso ... =448.topic
I've pulled together these suggestions from other posters. If they added a suggestion or tip, I tried to include it. I'll try to keep it updated.

Places to avoid:

Sanctus Seru (pathing is weird and lots of stuff summons)

Swarming at Levels 27-35 (may want to wait til after 30 so you have Fufil's Chant or you'll have lots of resists)

Rathe Mtns: Cyclopes and giant skeletons
Frontier Mountains: Giant Fort (good kiting spot to right of fort) -- great place to learn swarming
Lake of Ill Omen: Goblins or Sarnaks (You can do these as soon as you get charm, and bellow down when low, add fufils when you get it)
Eastern Wastes: Ulthorks (great to learn on 'cause they're slow), Walruses

Swarming at Levels 35-40

Oasis of Marr: Spectres (they lifetap when close, so stay out of melee range)
Rathe Mountains: Giants
Eastern Wastes: Ulthorks, Walruses
Iceclad Ocean: Cougars (they're fast)
Dawnshroud Peaks: wolves, zelniaks, stonegrabbers (" Though technically not swarming throwing DSP wolves and Large Zelniaks against Stonegrabbers works very well.")
The Overthere (Sarnaks are good and slow, but watch out for Dragoons)

Swarming at Levels 40-45

Butcherblock: dwarves (not guards/merchants)
Everfrost Peaks: Ice Giants
Iceclad Ocean: Giants, Wolves
Eastern Wastes: Rygorr, Giant Fort (watch out for Avengers after killing the Chief, watch out for red cons around Peffin -- they summon)
Great Divide: (good spot for kiting between POK book and EW zone) Dire Wolves, Giants (Elites are uncharmable), Giant Fort (often camped)
Dreadlands: Giant Fort (watch out for Gorenaire)
Lake of Ill Omen: Bloodgill Goblins
Burning Woods: Fire Hornet Nest
Timorous Deep: Spirocs
Tenebrous Mountains: dire sonic wolves (social) and bats (avoid Geomancers, they root) Area in the middle of the zone is a good spot

Swarming at Levels 45-50

Dulak: ships (usually can swarm the fore and then swarm the aft parts of the ships -- pathing varies from ship to ship) ("I found the Dirulia to be the best ship to swarm, due to pathing issues. One warning: You will get hit from time to time.")
Burning Woods: Giant Fort
Timorous Deep: Spiroc Island
Jaggedpine Forest: (first, use faction song on animals so they won't attack you) Potemiads, Poachers (good kiting spot just north of poacher tents)
Cobalt Scar: Wyverns
Dawshroud Peaks: Rockhoppers
Maiden's Eye: Gorangas (avoid hunters and shamans, but the lookouts and gatherers are fine)

Swarming at Levels 50-55

Gunthak: Lupppolds and Initiates (outside the "castle-like thingy"), Evil Village
Dulak: The ships
Maiden's Eye: Toilers
Timorous Deep: Raptors

Swarming at Levels 55+

Fungus Grove (need run 3): Shadel Bandits

The Grey (need EB item, and probably good to have an EB potion in the bank in case you die): Timeless golems, shimmering's, snakes ("snakes are highly resistant, so you need to have bellow up to finish them of") ("you can swarm right by the entrance to ML, or if you need more space, you can head to the right of the scarlet zone in, and swarm in the flat area there...Avoid triggering the traps that pop the little boulderlings")

PoN: Stalkers (usually permacamped)

PoD: Goos "in front of the bone wall"

PoD: Flies on islands ("The little peninsula where the tsetsian flies are is commonly camped and druids/wizzies will try and pull singles or kite rats nearby. They will get low on health and attract your swarm and /ooc bitch about you training them. If you run the right wall past the 4 fly islands there is another shore. The space between the shoreline and first rock is a nic kiting spot where you get diseased rat adds that are 50/50 charmable and add good dps. ") ("ALL Vetri Flies are charmable. You will get the following adds usually: Swamp / Diseased Rats - Very often. Every kite atleast. Larvas - Not so often. About 1 in 4 kites in my experience. Most are charmable (Except named, which are spawned). Festering Rats - Pretty rare, but uncharmable, rarley get them. Malarian Pests/Defilers/Gails - As long as you stayed AWAY from the Malarian Island nearest the 2 Vetri Fly Islands, you will not get these adds unless the flys go off on freakish pathing (You WILL get these adds if you try to pull the Tachnian Fly add near the Vetri Fly island. Best I've done is only 1 add, but it's worth it if you don't get a gail that summons or a defiler which casts).")

Skyfire Mountains: Elder Wyverns ("Forget BW zoneline, head to spot where the Elder Wyverns sit and guardian wurms spawn. Grab all 5-6 static elders wyverns and wanderers, good spell drops and decent plat, great exp if you keep it going. If the guardian wurms pop, please leave them alone. Watch out for Chromos. I used to just charm them and let the swarm wipe them out -- Until I realized I could get them down to deathwalk by breaking the charm at 5-10% and immediately snaring. Move the swarm away from the snared Chromo and get another charm going. While your pet is dying, go back and kill the Chromo. They are just too valuable exp and loot to poof. (Essence of Sunlight sell really well) If you get in trouble (multiple Chromos) and need to bail, just run away and camp. The zone is huge and you will easily be able to make it to a spot and camp to clear aggro.")

Indoor Swarming: for those with Run Speed 3
Fungus Grove (Pull to beetle area, they won't agro)
Torgiran Mines (bridge area)
Crypt of Nadox (campfire area near bridge, watch for nasty pigs)

Technically thats Swarm kiting, not AE kiting. Swarm uses Charm, AE uses PBAE dots. HoH, PoFire, and PoV are/were popular PBAE spots, since the nerf hit, its probably not gonna be there anymore.

Yeah, the quote I posted is for swarm but I use a lot of those places (or did rather) for AE kiting too.

Generally though, just check out eqdiva.com for this kind of info.
