We need to take better protection IMO

i think we need to take some more protection against newbie macro'ers and MORONS (notice i lways cap that ) .. find some way ....

i know this sounds stupid .. and it wont get used .. but it will spark a conversation and get ideas flowing =P

newbie macro'ers are the ones that easily get caught macroing because they dont know what they are doing, bad scripts that get em stuck running back and forth .. easy to spot ( not that all are newbies, but you know they can put more work into it.) and then there are the MORONS .. who do things like his in POK .. alarming the GM's and screwing it up for the rest ...

( heres the stupid part meant to start conversation thats not gonna get used .. thought of in 30 seconds )

i say you make it so that macro's cant get used unless they get a authorization from key macro'ers in this site ( or something similar ) .. people that have been nominated as good macro'ers that know hat they are doing , make an area whre people submit their macro's .. and if they pass a test ( such as making sure they dont use the npc's in POK to forge and sell ) then they get a working compiled macro to use or something ...

ok that was short and stupid =P what i basicly mean is .. we should havea 2 way safety check to eliminate MORONS and stop the bad coders from screwing up. it'll let em get their code right .. befor they get screwd... though by now .. who knows if we can even run macro quest .. im staying under till i know.

Personally I'm just going to start using what I have to seek out these people and get them banned.

If we police ourselves a little more there won't be issues like this.

MQ1 and MQ2 is working fine today. Just don't do what those guys were doing then you won't get caught.

I suggest folks not AFK for awhile and add delays in your combine macros. The problem is not qty of users using the products, it's some folks are very greedy. After wasting alot of today reading posts on the EQ site just shows those guys are pissed because they didn't have the knowledge of how to do it because if they did they would have.

It was really funny reading on how they go prevent him from doing it hehe, hmm put junk in the forge to stop him. Just to show you the blind leads the blind.

Now for the coding stuff, you would have to almost make it a closed source to do that but with EQ1 still available that would be hard.

well worth a try .. but your right .. its better to just get the MORONS who overdo it banned ...

its a shame though, a lot of decent people wanna use this for good reasons and are learning how to program .. now they face getting caught because their code might suck. i would be the type to help em ..but ...
no sence giving tips and code snippets for ideas how not to get caught .. people use em .. it gets spread .. sony makes a work around .. i got to make more code... i figure anyone who can program well will come up with their own security against people and GM's.

There do seem to be more guides/GMs around. I nabbed my first moron speeding across the zone. Sent a petition and a GM ended up there within 2 minutes. Shortly after that char was not online anymore....hmmm.

Look at it this way, at least we are finally getting Guide/GM support again. No more waiting 4 days for your petitions to get answered.

More precisely, at least the Guides are getting GM support again. They've been getting the short end of the stick for ages, which is why there are so few of them. They quit in frustration or disgust.

Hmmm, maybe it's time to request reactivation :)

What's funny was I applied 2 yrs ago when they didn't have any around and they never replied, so I said scre them. I would still be a guide since I'm bored anyway and just sit around BS'ing.

As for ratting folks out just remember you see them and they see you. I watch folks all the time and can tell most of the time when they are using 3rd party softwware. So think about it before you tell on folks, even tho it would help get the heat off the project butt one day as you run through the zone and always run arounf the zone without getting agro someone might turn you in for using these programs.

MQ could add a inheriant delay on combines and that would stop the speed combining (unless you remove the line each time you compile). Since EQ now has a 1 to 2 sec delay it wouldn't hurt to add the delay in there.

That's a good point MQSEQ. I'm always very careful with how I play using other apps, I'll be even more so now. I've never in my own opinion abused what I use.

I know I have an advantage over others and I try to make every effort to only use that advantage when it won't affect others in a bad way.

Hopefully it'll make abusers think twice that people using the same tools they are, are also out to get them. Even if they don't care, it can help stop something before it gets out of hand.

What we need, is our own server so we don't have to depend on Sourceforge and don't have to accept their licensing.

That way you could make your own license and include in it terms against linking precompiled binaries.

No precompiled binaries = fewer noobs.

Not true, those who are going to abuse the software, probably knows where to get a compiler like nmake hmmm WinXP has it installed by default. So look here find the instructions and/or just run nmake and figure it out. not to hard to compile.

So the binaries want cause fewer folks using it. What will cause fewer folks is folks not getting caught and bringing the lime light to the products.

If this advice were taken to its maxim, only the original devs and their immediate friends would have access to tools like MQ2. Consider yourself fortunate they like to share.

Eventually most threads like this end up having someone interject some "lemme butter up the devs" post.

Back to the topic. I've said this on other boards; just becuase some of us find it easy to do crtain technical things, does not mean even step by step instructions would help some of these people.

Just read posts on any board related to this or any one of the EQ add ons. There are 100s of posts and people getting angry because people just DO NOT read the instructions.

MQSEQ you and the people in your circles may be able to do it, but the vast majority cannot. That's why people want a precompiled MySEQ, that why they loved the preconpiled MQ and we have this problem, that's why FH is so popular now.

These things are much better when left to people in the know. The last 4+ years are proof. Every time things become too easy to get and run, morons get ahold of them and abuse it. Things tighten down and it gets better until we get lazy again. I took a few months off in that 4 or so years and this is at least the 5th time that something like this happens. When tools like MQ go mainstream it's trouble, period.

MQ/"Hacking" community, well I think we need to get back to being elitest. Mainstreaming is bad, it's better in the shadows.

The only circle I have is : me, myself and I and we don't get along too much. I will tell you how easy it is to compile this stuff, as of a month or so ago I never used C# much less programed in it and now I've become a major developer for the project.

I'm no elitest or I would have just made my own version (which I was doing in VB6) and I could have compiled it and sold it for a real profit to my pockets. I've had folks want to pay me for the time and effort I put into developing the project and I replied send it to the SEQ site if they wanted to do that.

For $45 and a copy of VS .Net 2003 anyone can learn to program in C#. What makes me look so good is I know how to use Google to search for what I want to know.

For MQ1 and/or MQ2 the hardest thing to do is run nmake at a DOS prompt (MQ2Auth for MQ2 as well) then your pretty much up and running. That's really not that complicated afterall. What makes it hard is all the negative comments from others unwilling to help. Those are the wannabe elitest aka Level 3 types at FH.

Instead of being negative towards folks and calling them morons teach them and they won't abuse the system. We preach to folks on how to use SEQ the right way, we cant monitor them (nor would we want too) anyone playing the game is old enough and knows what they are doing is wrong. I've seen dev's here post they would do it if they knew which items to make the plat with. Not saying anything bad about the dev's (because they deserve to do it if they want) but based on the comments I have read then I would have to call them morons and dumb asses and they are the one that caused this! (Of course that is paraphrasing what others have called others for doing it).

All the developers on all the projects do this for the challenge of doing something that they enjoy and if they want to use and abuse the system they know the risk just like everybody else. Remember Plazmic/Ratt/Cavemanbob didn't have to make these programs open source and folks would have bought the precompiled code without blinking an eye.
