how do you covert a text file to a .mac file?

open the file in notepad, clicks saveas - select all files from the type drop down, save your file as:

whatever.mac

thats it

was just wondering how you convert a script you get from here which is only copyed in text form and covert it to a usable macro.

The process as outlined above... once its in .mac format it is useable.

The .mac extension is just for our convenience. I don't think MQ really cares. You could probably do /macro mymacro.txt and it would run.

I cheat a little - I copy an exsisting .mac file, then open it and do a select all and paste from here.

You could also add your own extension to the extension library in some programs. I use UltraEdit and it has a very easaly alterable extension library. When I was hot into doing UI mods I got sick of always having to make the UI files as text then convert them. So I added a *.xml option. When I started writing macros I added in *.mac and *.inc extensions. These now show up on the save window as viable extensions to apply to new files.

I use notepad alot.

To save as a filetype other than .txt, I would use Save As... then change the Save as type to All Files.

Then enter the filename with the extention (filename.mac) in the filename box then click save.

on windows xp you usually have to save as "name.mac" with quotes around it to save it as something other than .txt
