Finding max range for attacking

Post by wassup » Tue Aug 19, 2003 3:50 am

In alot of circumstances it is favorable to be at the maximum range to attack (hit box).

I have been experimenting with this and haven't had any success.

This is how I see it happening:

1. Move to some designated range behind the target.
2. Try to attack
3. If attack results in "Too far away", Goto 1 (after reducing the range)

I do not want to end up too far inside the hit box.

Anyone able to come up with a clean method to do this? I would appreciate it.

I am using MoveBehind from another macro so that part isn't needed.

I would perhaps start the other way. Just have the bot run up to the mob and slowly back away until you are out of range. Then, at least you are doing damage while you find the max melee range. When you start getting "to far away" messages, store the variable for distance and subtracked 10 or 20. Then use that new variable to keep your bot within a few digits of it. To much accuracy will look REALLY obvious, to little won't keep you at the right range. Probably want to use /press instead of /sendkey for small changes, and I found that checking the mob's speed also helps you decide if you want to use /press or /sendkey

Well, going in close and coming out has quite a few disadvantages, mainly some of the mobs I am talking about have proximity aggro. Definitly don't want to do that. Another thing is it is simple to see max range by looking at pets, so not worried about the 'obvious' factor. What would be nice is to use that $ini feature recently added to store the max range of particular mobs.

Well, if your worried about prox agro, start off at a decent range, say 20. That is far enough away to not have to worry too much about prox agro, and just write it for: if out of range, move in, if in range, move back.
