It's certainly not impossible, if someone were THAT good. However, running an executable sent to you by a hacker of that magnitude would be a rather silly thing to do :)
$50 for the source? I might buy that if, for nothing else, to add it to our CVS ..haha

I bet that product includes source stolen from this open source project, which is against the open source licence agreement. Correct me if I am wrong.....
This is the kind of shit the brings SoE down on MQ hard.

They can sell code derived from here but to be legal they have to provide the source since it would fall under GPL as well. GPL code is free to be used by anyone but there are some rules on how you distribute it. Technicaly you could download a fresh CVS here, not change a thing and sell it compiled (with the source included). Of cource who would pay for somthing that they could download freely. Also, even if they did make some changes there is nothing stoping me from buying and and applying the changes to my source or to CVS.
GPL FAQ is a great read if you really want to know what can and can not be done with GPL'd software.

No source is included ... I would never run anything like this that I didnt compile myself. I want to know what the hell its gonna do. What is to keep this software from recording your keystrokes, stealing your password and screwing you out of your account?
Bad voodoo if you ask me....

If they are using any MQ source they are inviolation of the gpl. (Since they specifically call out offsets, I'm guessing they are using the MQ source). If so, what they are doing is actionable, but they probably realize no one will go through the painful effort of filing suit against them.

I was under the impression that you could sell a program that is under the GPL aslong as you include the source to that program.

You have to make the source freely available. You can sell it, sell compiled versions, etc. but the source must also be available at no cost.

The GPL is more of a "Gentleman's Agreement", to use an old saying. Sure, in the real world there is serious grounds for a civil suit; however, given the 'type' of program that is MacroQuest, would any MQ developers want to go to court and have their name available to everyone?
I'm afraid that there is little that can, could, or will be done if someone decided to steal source code simply because of the nature of the program. It's something akin to dealing on the black market: when you deal in dark places, there will be those that will take advantage of you!
However, this kind of thing, if proven to be true, could really piss off real MQ developers and could have serious backlash. Personally, I wouldn't fault don't_know_at_all if he took his new memory checking routines and put them in a custom .dll and not release the source for it (ie, equivalent to the old libeq.a trick for showeq). While people would have source for the current routines, if SOE broke it again in the future, MQ wouldn't compile without that .dll and devs could put in security checks that would make it difficult for that .dll to work with other versions of MQ. But, again, that may be more trouble than it's worth and, as we all know, just about anything can be hacked by anyone good enough.

But this looks more like eqhack that macroquest.
The interface is identical to the GHU interface and as such appears to be mearly a offset switcher
