Old UI going away!

From EQlive's web site:

Old UI, We Hardly Knew Ye
After much faithful service, it's time for us to bid a fond farewell to EverQuest's Classic and Velious user interfaces. In yesterday's Test Server patch, the old interfaces were disabled.

While adding many features to the new interface over the past six months, including the built-in MP3 player, item links, compass, and enhanced /bug reporting tool, we've done the best that we could to keep all three interfaces, at the very least, usable.

However, some of the features that we've been quietly working on over the past weeks have unfortunately forced our hand.

We don't want to spoil all of the upcoming changes at once, however, in yesterday's Test Server update, we released the first run of the new EverQuest windowed mode that's been in the works for quite some time now. (In a game that was originally written for a much earlier version of DirectX, it's a lot more work than many would think.) Soon, it will behave in a manner similar to other applications that support both full-screen and windowed mode and can be toggled back and forth. As a part of this change, the account bans related to the use of third-party EverQuest windowing applications have already been reversed.

In addition, the long-rumored "Bard Box" has also been revealed on the Test Server. For those who are not aware, we've been wanting to add a second Effects window that would hold selected short-duration beneficial effects, most notably many bard songs. Initially, for tuning, the new effects area will allow six additional songs to be placed upon your character.

These updates will remain on the Test Server only until after the new year, as we expect that much additional testing will be required.

We hope you'll be as pleased with these latest changes as we are, and we look forward to bringing you many new features in the coming months.

Why sucky?

Maybe we can have clicks in the (NEW) UI now, I'd consider that a good thing. Wouldn't you?

What fucking lamers

New UI is totally lame to use. Who cares if the picture is streched bigger. In the OldUI you can see the ENTIRE picture with your effects icons turned off AND the entire GUI. NewUI covers 1/3 of the picture atleast with windows and stuff for us people with ghei computers.

And who the hell comes up with this stuff. Your average noob that logs onto EQ for the first time now is going to be spammed with 2 buff boxes, 5? windows for chat/health/target/etc, a compass,.......

Fuck i'v played EQ for 3 years now and the NewUI is so disorienting that i died in the first 5 minutes of using it in combat. Not only does it re-arrange your spellbook completely because of the 5-8 spell/page difference, but theres atleast 300? icons for spells now. Iv already got 250 fricking spells and each having a different icon is useless..

Oh and if i want to fix half of this stuff, I need to make a UI mod mostly from scratch. Sigh. I guess it only figures, though. VI doesent give a fuck for any players under 55 anymore, so i guess any improvement to the 60+ is well worth the 50 and below disbenefits.

FYI /click in NewUI has been worked on forever now and i really dont think Plaz and others are going to be able to throw it togather in 2~3 weeks since its been a project for months now and hasnt been completed.

Personally I say fuck you verant, once again taking the side of the doller over providing a service to the average customer. I should post this on the EQ boards too but i know someone of programming importance will read it here anyway. Huh?

Nah

I look forward to the challenge. The new UI formats are readable, and will just require some file parsing(which I do for a living)
I disagree with the prior flame, the new UI is custom, it only covers 1/3 of the screen if you want it to. Personally I use a custom skin that looks like a car dashboard :)

Is very cool. This development should also take some of the heat OFF MQ users, as verant will know that we cant power up trade skills quite as easily. Anyhow, challenge is a spice. Live or die, your choice. But sit on your butt and whine and your dead for sure.

Salutations,
you know what, I am willing to bet money that Plaz has the newUI click working, he just won't share it with us, perhaps he wants to give it to us as a new years present or something...

I can verify that Plaz does not have newUI working yet. Move along nothing to see here.

Dear Plazoo,
Besides my two front teeth and a power pumper (stupid commercials, I'm hooked now :p) all I want is newUI click...

I have to say that this bit of news actually brought me back to the MQ boards. I was disappointed when I found out that newui /click was considered a "back burner" issue that I went to Xylobot ...but, who knows now what might happen with MQ! :)

Amazing how back burner projects can become front burner ones, when they need to be.
