EQ Private servers

I gave up on EQ when they started releasing an expansion every month a long time ago, last patch I played was the planes one. Anyways, I was bored, and was wondering if anyone played on any private servers and it was worth it.

It was an expansion every 6 months, and theyve changed to an xpack a year now. Just FYI.

You quit because they release expansions to the base game? Go play Diablo II - theres only been one expansion in the 10? years its been around.

From what I can tell, every other MMO is on a yearly release schedule.

I've only really played on two private servers, based on ones found over at eqemulator.net. Also, I found out how to run my own server and did that with my friends for awhile, they didnt know that I had gm powers, so it was real fun screwing with them... but meh, all and all it gets boring faster than live, and once you start putrid cloud of decaying entire zones at once, it just gets worse....

If you want to play, you should have gotten in on the progressive servers when they came out... but now they are way far, dodh I believe, and begin to suck just as the other servers do.


I know its very depressing that they keep getting new expansions out, theres like 13 now and imo pop and beyond was a little too gay... just sais if you dont buy expansions you'll be left behind in the game, less opportunity and such...

EQ is dying, has been for awhile, just as the rest will.

Yeah I remember right when the dungeon expansion came out I said eff it and didn't buy it, and it seemed like the game died to me, but really everyone was just off doing dungeon things

Dungeons was around the time the pvp servers died.

Not only was there now augs to make ever piece of equipment no-drop, you could no longer kill people as they were always in dungeons...

then eq (sony) decided to change pvp completely - they removed looting and added some lame point system... they ruined all the pvp servers, its such a joke.

Yeah I might go pick it up, can you add it onto previous games? anyone know if they really do kill off characters not in use? I had a shaman, not too high only 60 but I would still like to not have to start over, though with MQ2 it wouldn't be all that difficult.

I went back after 1-2 years of absence, and all my guys were still there. My guild had dissolved, and my old friends had swapped servers when they merged them, but my guys were still there. And yes, you can add the anniversary edition to old accounts. It gives you all released expansions for $20.

Kinda funny, since my friends who didn't quit and come back like me bought each expansion at like $30 per as soon as preorders started. So I payed $20 for all the expansions that cost them like $150.
