Cheap Everquest?

Post by Nerfy » Tue Oct 22, 2002 9:04 pm

Not MQ related, but (the majority) of people here on these boards seem helpful. So help. =)

Ok, so about a year ago I got caught... enhancing my playing experience. Good old VI banned me straight away. Very odd since it was the first time I'd ever done anything wrong, but those are the breaks.

Anyway, after taking a year off I'm starting to look back to Norrath and I'm thinking about diving back in. I signed up for a free account a while back and am still playing on it. My new character won't replace my 44 Bard (sigh, I miss that lambent smurf) but it is still kind of fun.

The deal is that I downloaded the freebie version. I'm now thinking about buying some verion so that I can explore all of this new content that's been released. I'd had SoV for a couple months when I got kicked, so I haven't had any experience with SoL or (of course) PoP.

My question is, what should I buy? Where should I buy it? I haven't really kept up with PoP - is it worth it with me entering the game this late and at a low level, or should I hold off until my character gets older? From what I've seen there's a trilogy version (Original, Kun, Vel), and Gold version (Those 3 + SoL) and some super gold Tin Box coming out soon that has all 4. Prices are 30, 50, and 70 that I've been able to find.

So, as a former player returning to the game... can anyone out there tell me where to find the best deal and which expansion(s) I should grab? Right now I'm thinking about getting the SoL version (that comes with the original pack) so that I can see just the content that I missed out on since before. Then there's this nagging feeling that I shoud get the 4 pack and holding off on PoP till I'm post 40. But I'd kind of like to have them all =).

In case it's suggested, though I'm not opposed to buying a used account - but I don't think I will since I'm weary of them considering the amount of scams running. I looked around for someone that had tired of the game but bought all four packs. I wasn't wanting it for the character, just for the discount on the collective software. And if I got a lvl 12 or so for free... neato. But all the accounts I see for sell are in the hundreds for characters in their 50's, and I would never go for that. I don't want to spend that kind of money, and I don't want any character over what my original one was - that just wouldn't be right.

So, anyone out there have a link to a cheap copy of all 4? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Well if you can wait a couple weeks they are releasing EQ Gold which includes ALL expansions including PoP for $65.

https://store.station.sony.com/hardgood ... 102-EQGOLD

I believe that is your best bet since you get the complete everything.
EverQuest® Classic
The Ruins of KunarkTM expansion
The Scars of VeliousTM expansion
The Shadows of LuclinTM expansion
The Planes of PowerTM expansion

Luclin cost $30 bucks alone. PoP cost $30 bucks also. So for $5 bucks more you get Kunark and Velious.

Thanks for the advice! Are SoL and PoP worth it? I mean - here I am starting over again - do I really need these?

Shadows of Luclin are worth it.
Planes of Power is for those 55+ EQ brats, ebabies, and those hard working at their character since lvl 1 to 55.

By the time you reach lvl 55, the price on PoP will have dropped atleast a few dollars.

Just get all the previous expansions.
the Nexus thats found in Luclin is the travel HUB of the game now.
I wouldn't play without it, after experiencing it.

Best wishes to you.
My perception is my reality.

I"ve seen people talking about the Nexus. I've also heard that PoP has a place that will let you TL yourself next to anywhere. To be honest, that may just be worth the extra $20 to me.

Though the boats are a pain in the ass, it's sad to think of them no longer being used. I mean, there was an added feeling of accomplishment when you reached a city when travel time included the boat ride.

Then there was that first run from Qeynos to Freeport. Memories =).

Plane of Knowledge has portal stones that will insta-port you to all the major zones. Invaluable.

I remember those days - waiting ages for a boat to Euridin - then forgetting to get off at the port!!!

Or even worse - accidentally pressing the autorun key and finding yourself swimming aimlessly for an hour, only to find yourself being eaten by a shark!!! Then the obligatory hour wait for a GM to recover your corpse!!!

But yeah nostalgia is nice - to look back at anyways - would u get on a boat these days?!!!

PoP

My 2 cents.

I would get one of those free accounts, level it for a month then BUY the cheapest package to get you going. PoP happends to come with the base Everquest for $20 so thats an option.

P.S. "What are boats" says my droid (on my second account)

I would definately but SoL, The nexus is still usefull for some locations, well NK and Dreadlands anyway. Paludal Caverns is probably the best xp zone to get you from high teens to 25 that there has ever been. I actually like the new character models and the Bazaar is really the only place you can buy equipment nowadays.

PoP is worth the purchase just for the gates in PoK.

buy pop

Post by FlashG » Thu Oct 24, 2002 1:33 pm

Paying $20 to get POP is WELL worth it. Being able to TP my self to 90% of the places a Druid/Wiz can with ZERO wait time is priceless. IE going from KC to Rathe Mountins is a 5 miniute trip. Just a short run to the FV tunnel, a right click to PoK, Right click to ferrot, short run to RM.
