What dev environment is used to write MQ. VS.NET ???

If so can i just install VS.NET (no mean feat in itself) then open the project file make a few changes, hit compile and it will work ??

Never used C++ in VS before last time I wrote any C code a 200MB file server was Uber. I have written a few VB apps so i am no stranger to Micky Soft Dev environment I just have no experience of the C++ dev environment.

Also can anybody drop me a link to a good Dissassembler, gonna check out what this offset malarky is all about.

I am getting bored of EQ as a game but I spent a lot of time on my chars so I was thinking playing with MQ might help spice it up a bit :-).

PS Anybody recommend a good IRC client and an FAQ, never used it before lol.

PPS if its something people dont want to talk about in public then PM or mail me.

Aye, mIRC is hands-down the best Windows IRC client out there...

The dev env IS VS.NET. You can, if you really want to be tricky, hack it up to work properly in a command-line environment. This is what I did before I installed my copy of VS.NET at home. But this is ugly and painful and I wouldn't recommend it unless you're desperate.

Some good disasms are IDA (Interactive Disassembler), WinHack (not really a disassembler... but very useful for offset hacking), and good old Windbg (I'm amazed that most people don't know about this free, solid, very feature-packed debugger that MS puts out).

As to IRC -- mIRC, definitely. Other clients have their merits, but for ease of use and (arguably) extensibility, mIRC is king.

If you're just wanting to hop in a single channel for awhile even Trillian will do. Though I don't recommend using it for file transfers, and multiple channels - it's fine for a single channel.

When it comes to irc, load up the IRC program you want, connect to a server and type /join #ChannelName. Int this case I'm guessing ChannelName=Macroquest.
