Plugin Forums?

Post by Teh_Hidden » Mon Apr 18, 2005 6:41 pm

Maybe it's just me...but I'm not seeing the plugin forums anymore. Is there a reason they've been stripped?

Theyre with the other MQ2 Development forums, which have been moved to VIP. We're working on reducing MacroQuest's popularity after certain recent events, and as part of that we have removed the "how to compile using free compiler" posts and moved the development forums. (and to recap the last 15 threads or so, this should not be confused with "requiring you to pay" and should also not be confused with "macroquest is no longer GPL", or other similarly asstastic phrases)

You've piqued my curiosity: what are the "recent events"?

People stealing code and reselling it as their own like the cheese eating monkey ass crack sniffers.
Reading . . . it's not just for me.

Bad thing is it will only delay them from doing so, not stopping them :(

Sadly...yeah, they are. =/

Heh, guess I'll sell some plat to raise some cash to get VIP.

But...in the mean time, would it be possible to either make more plugins available with the zip, or make compiled versions available?

I'm guessing that's going to be a "no", but I have to ask, for all of the poor schmucks like me out there.

Edit: On further thought, that would defeat the purpose, wouldn't it? Bah.

Compiled versions is ofcourse a no, no need to even try to explain.
And i think the problem with non-dev plugins in the zip would be that people would wrongly think that the devs have support for those plugins.

Yes, and also "cheese eating monkey ass crack sniffers" both of which are going into my vocabulary at the earliest possible opportunity.

Thanks to both of the contributors.

Actually I will probably reword the second one to "cheese-eating, crack sniffing, monkeys"

What are the bards gonna do?

Post by Timbuktu » Wed May 04, 2005 4:35 pm

Man.. that was the only place to find MQ2Twist, and I as a bard can't play without it. It hadn't been updated in a while (Crazybard's being most recent), but if it gets broken by a patch, I'm hosed.
I'm broke as heck, or I'd give them devs some $ cuz they are so awesome..
I also use MQ2MoveUtils alot and it seems to be fairly stable, but I'd hate to lose it to a patch also.

Well, guess I'll give my one Plea. Please return the plugin forum. Please.

Get a life for a month and spend the $13 on a donation instead of EQ. Bum 10 bucks along the side of a road or something. It's not hard to get a donation together.

*sniffle*

no really. here's the thing...

MQ2 has grown out of its old "free for all" state. The issue is that the community is very segregated -- 10% are pleasant, 90% are assholes. Some people want "leet hacks" like warping (which we do not provide) or want to know how to cheat on random rolls (which has not been possible since 2000), stuff like that. What's more, most of them are the same ones that are young kids (say, under 18) who have never had a job and have no respect for the work anyone does for them (who will promptly reply to this and claim that just because they are 14 doesnt mean anything, etc).

Many open source projects decide to have a membership-only community. We have both, and our membership-only portion is controlled only by donations. Previously, we allowed most of our development stuff both inside and outside of the VIP area. Now, it has been shifted to the VIP area, and this has positive results as far as the community goes.

I realize it isn't difficult to get the money together to donate.

I do value the dev's time and effort here on the MQ2 boards, I always felt that my time and effort helping people out qualified as my "donation" to the MQ2 effort.

Anyways, so long. It's been a great time here on the MQ forums. I'll check back sporadically, but I doubt I'll spend much time here anymore.
