Question about #EVENT's

Post by Zakalwe » Mon Dec 02, 2002 12:15 pm

I was wondering if you use too many #event commands, will it take up a lot of memory or processing power parsing everything that comes through the chat window?

Im going to write a small macro that has evenys defined for healing/buffing/following etc. eg:

#chat tell
#event chatheal "player tells you 'Heal Me'"
#event chatstorm "player tells you 'Storm Strength'"
#event chatspike "player tells you 'Spike Coat'"
#event chatfollow "player tells you 'Follow Me'"
#event chatstand "player tells you 'Stand'"
#event chatsit "player tells you 'Sit'"

And each of these eventsubroutines casts the appropriate spell or performs the appropriate action,
eg
/target player
/follow
etc

If I have 6 or so events defined will this run like a dog on a fairly low end PC? I use low graphics settings on my 2nd box and it has a 700mhz processor with 512mb of ram.

Im sure there is a far better way to code this, but other than network login scripting using a bit of kixtart i am a complete code newbie.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I think you'll be OK. For more hints and ideas, check out the clericbot.mac and casterbot.mac in the Depot section, which basically do exactly what you're looking for here. :)
