Beeline by the blind

Post by rogoff » Tue Nov 19, 2002 1:53 pm

The other night I was in an area where spawns are rarer than players. I was running a homebuilt macro that alerts me whenever a mob pops. If I can see it on tracking, I then /target and chase it.

Several times, as I was running to a mob, I noticed a necro keeping pace. Often we would arrive at the same mob at the same time, starting from similar locations.

There is no way that necro could have known about some of those mobs (they were out of LOS) without some sort of radar/macro program. If I had been a GM he would have been busted inside of 15 min.

Point being, if you're not a tracking class, be mindful of LOS when you /target, /face and run.

A related question: Does anyone know the range of Druid tracking? My ranger can pretty much see the entire zone he's in, so detecting far off-spawns is realistic. I want to program a radius into my Druid's search, but I don't know the max track distance.

Does anyone?

Tracking range is directly tied to your skill. Up until ranger track cap passes druid track cap (level 25), they have the same range (rangers just get the neat options). As for how far that actually is, I haven't a clue, however, using the /who npc <name> option, you chould be able to figure it out. Just find a named on track, and do a /who npc <named> then move away from it repeatedly hitting track til it drops off the scan.

Then come here and post your findings.

the guy could easily have been using showeq, but good advice anyway. when i use my hunting script I always set the range on my alerts so that i dont run all the way across the zone to find that single spiderling that just poped.

Ok, the Range on a Druid's tracking is 2000 units.

so, "/target range 2000" duplicates what a Druid could do. A Ranger is pretty much the whole zone.

This is with no LOS. I will have to check how far cliprange is, in a zone with good LOS (NK is one).
