CTD-New Year 2004 after Character Select

Post by Miseaujeu » Tue Jan 20, 2004 10:30 pm

I still have the Christmas version saved on my hard drive and that runs just fine. However, when I try and upgrade to this I crash after the Character Selection Screen once I've selected someone and tried to go forward.

The only thing that I can think of as being "odd" is that my EQ is in the following path

"D:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest\EverQuest.exe"

something about the D:\ instead of C:\ causing problems?

I can only verify that this is not an issue. That being said i even have two laptops that I run off a server share and MQ works just fine.

I get the same error on one of my computers. On the others it runs just fine without any problems.
Ofcause different hardware, but on the same OS Windows XP
I've tried upgrading graphics drivers and direct X but no luck there.

I do belive it has to do with graphics crash bug because on the computer that CTD after char select screen I dont get to see the macroquest enhanced loading picture with the devs names on various characters and the text and such.
After server select it's black screen with yellow text something about happy new year mq team. then it goes black for a while, and character select pops up with the mq window. after selecting a char it goes all black for 5 sec, and then boom CTD!

I'm trying to debug but cant find anything that helps or changes any of the above yet.

Rename the bmpwad8.s3d file to some other name in your mq2\release directory.

Thanks ml2517! Latest MQ 31-dec-03 is now working!

I wonder still why it crash on one computer but not the other.
Perhaps bill gates could answer that...
