Memory Leak?

Post by TheColonel » Tue Dec 02, 2003 7:19 pm

It might just be me... but given an hour or 10 of playing... 30+ zones and a raid force casting a million particles.... well, the point is, I'm getting a memory leak somewhere. I /unload and the lag of memory/swap file swappage goes away, everything returns to almost normal... And I' like to take this opprotunity to gripe about this open sourced project not being open source. I understand the problem with having people compile it and post it... but I'm not sure that this auth system is really the proper response. If there is a memory leak, I can't help find it, because I don't have the source.... right.. On that note, I open myself to flaming... this is one of them multi-topic posts... but bug reports seems to be the most logical place to dump.

I think I can safely say that you have the source to everything that could be causing the memory leak. The MacroQuest.exe's only job is to confirm the dll belongs to you and inject it in to eqgame.exe. That and the routine that creates the checksum are the only parts not open source. The reset of the code you have access to.

Try unloading each plugin at a time to see if its only one of the plugins. No point in klling all of MQ if its only 1 thing.

I'm going to flame you for the simple fact that you have no idea what you're talking about when you say the open source project isnt open source. It's open source, and you have the code. There's two files included that are not open source. They have nothing to do with the problem.

There WAS a memory leak several releases ago because of an incorrect offset. If you fail to update your MQ correctly we can't help you.

LOL... yeah, I was pretty pissed. Took a good 5 minutes to zone, by the time I got over my raid had wiped, and I was next. So... sorry for venting there.
