Compiling MQ2 for your friends or other computers

Post by Lax » Thu Nov 20, 2003 8:28 pm

We have implemented a form of DLL authentication into MQ2.
As of 2004-01-01 release this has slightly changed.

From now on, MQ2Auth system allows a sort of "keyring". Copy your complete MQ2Auth0.h to second machine along with MQ2Auth.exe. Run MQ2Auth.exe on that machine to update that file. Copy updated MQ2Auth0.h to replace your main MQ2Auth0.h.

Then, the same MQ2Main.dll is guaranteed to work on both machines.

Question: The original MQ2Auth would write the .h file to your MQ2Main directory. Is the new one behaving the same? MQ2Auth should create the files in the same directory it is run in, so that you can use a floppy (archaic I know) to create your keys.

In other words I have 3 computers. I copy MQ2Auth to a diskette, and run the program from a diskette. It creates MQ2Auth1 and MQ2Auth2. I eject the diskette, go to the second computer, and once again run MQ2Auth, which updates the .h files on the diskette. Repeat for comp 3. I now go back to my dev machine, copy the .h files to my MQ2Main directory, and compile.

Clarification: MQ2Auth first tries to put the file in MQ2Main, if that directory exists from the current path (for the old version AND for this version). If it does not exist, it is placed in the current directory. In other words, the floppy sequence you indicate is 100% doable and absolutely correct.
