They lost that right when they made it opensource, or more precisely, when they released the source code for it. Even without the license aggreement, making the source publically available voids all righs on distrubition. It's like saying that a famous cook could release a receipe for everyone to use, then get pissed when someone added a different ingredent and served it in a restruant!. SOURCE IS NOT INTELECTUAL PROPERITY (Calafornia supreme court in 1992)
Don't be such a coward and hide behind 'rights'. It's about respect. Apparently you don't have any.

Uhm... I lost a couple thousand when the stock dropped $3 a little while ago...
Reducing the profit MS makes gives me less to live on (which is not good)... so before you diss MS, donate any money MS isn't making to me.

hey everyone remember me? ya anyways...i'm trying to figure out the pros and cons to distributing the MQ binary, feel free to help me out in any way you can.

PROS:
1.) You get very popular with the noobs who can't figure out how to pirate and compile themselves

2.) You can be happy knowing your doing community a service even if it will come back and bite the project in the ass later.

3.) Possibly large amount of site hits...he could put popups on it! We all love those

4.) Brings more popularity to the MQ project

CONS:
1.) Devs don't want it distributed == lack of respect by anyone other than the noobs stated in post 1

2.) Receive disrespect by anyone with half a brain

3.) Brings more pressure down on MQ which could piss off SoE to the point of purposely trying to break MQ again.

4.) Starts big commosion on MQ and FH boards which results in large amounts of flames.

5.) Did imention the devs keep it source only for a reason?

6.) Postpones his chances of hitting puberty for a whole nother year...(damn zerix is it really worth it)

-----------------------

PS. Most of these are just foolin around, i'll leave it up to everyone else to post if they really want to =P

PSS. Zerix, is it really worth it to lose any respect you could manage to get from the MQ/FH community? and on an FH note, you could have been a good contributer to things. However now i think that you will never get any higher in level because...nobody likes you...too bad i must say

damnit, i always end up offending someone, and it had to be our godfather. /bow. okay, so it isn't always good to rape ms products... but i have no extra money to send you because i spent it all on office xp and windows xp professional, and that damn laser speeding ticket (84 in a 55, they say) i got last week... (325 buckaroos that i coulda donated) heh. neway - so do we all tend to agree that using the free compiler is a viable option before i post on the instructions?

I don't see why not if it works.

How about because the devs and the majority of the MQ community don't want you (the generic 'you') to? You'd think that would be reason enough.

I was referring to auth's idea of making a compiler available legally...not distributing a pre-compiled version of MQ...

You need quotes. I had no context!
