Fucking crashing ...anyone know how to fix this?

Post by Amadeus » Sat Sep 20, 2003 8:43 pm

Ok, so I'm playing the game like a good boy today....MQ was running, but I wasn't doing anything special with it. And, about halfway running across Gunthak, the game crashes. Then, trying to log back in, I crash EVERY time I select that character (other characters work fine)

I tried:
* Deleting ALL Gunthak related files in my EQ directory
* Full file scan
* Logging in another char and petitioning ( L O L )

...anyone have any other suggestions? I've been having problems on SWG with stuff like this lately (computer freezes and I come back and files are corrupted) ...so, I may have corrupted files somewhere..but have no idea what to delete, etc...

Here is from my log file:

you may have somehow got a corrupted character file on the server, petition and the GMs will look into it... if it's not corrupted, maybe they can give you a walkout

Hmmm...this nice part about this experience is that I think I've finally figured out what has been causing my computer to FREEZE the past couple months. Obviously, there is something wonky with my sound card or the interface to the PCI backbone or SOMETHING ..because disabling the sound card seems to fix things...

Dammit..I hope if I buy another sound card it will fix things.

I had a similar problem with a sound card a while back. Before you buy a new sound card try moving it to a different slot. Might have in IRQ conflict... yeah yeah, I know, not supposed to be a problem any more, but bad software/drivers and motherboard pickiness... sometimes it works.

I went through my motherboard BIOS setup and made some adjustements that I think might fix it ...I kindof forgot to through and "optimize" the settings after installing my new motherboard a while back.

I tested some things that were causing me problems before and seems to be working better.....crossing my fingers.

There are also a great deal of link death issues from LDoN. Everyone is having them. A partial fix for users of WinXP is to remove QoS packet scheduling from your network protocols. Doesn't fix the problem, but does make the game a bit more stable.

My 2 cents: I had bad XML files for a custom UI that caused a similar problem. Edit your character ini file to point back to the default directory.

It'd be nice if someone could develop a UI error checker, one that would let us know which XML file is wrong.

You've got one.. it's called UIErrors.txt in your EverQuest folder.
