more money

Post by Madman » Sun Jul 14, 2002 4:02 pm

I am sitting at work and it just hit me. It seems that everything is getting nerfed rather fast now due to the large number of people you have comming to this bored. I was wanting to propose an idea. I am all for this message board and i know that this wonderful project is proborably becoming full time for you. But have you thought of setting up another mesage board that is pay access to go with this one. By doing this you are not selling the program. All you are doing is selling a place where you and the people who are willing to pay a place to share the information we find just amongst ourselves that away it has less of a chance of getting nerfed.

Heres my 2cp on the idea....

Verant would definitely pay the access fee, and it would be top on their list of places for GMs to look for stuff to nerf.

Sorry, but this idea would not fix a thing.

In my humble opinion (which is probably not shared by anyone else here), I think that using macros for making money (ie, cheese.mac, etc..) is lame. I do consider that an "exploit", and if you get caught, I have no sympathy.

I believe MacroQuest is useful because of the way it makes tedious things easier (ie, tradeskills). I mean, I STILL have to farm silks/hides; I STILL have to buy gems, etc.. however, with MacroQuest, at least I don't have to sit and tediously combine them one by one with the damn mouse back and forth. I'd say the same thing about fishing -- I still have to buy the poles and the lure...but, at least I can not drive myself insane sitting there pressing the button constantly.

This is the other reason that I think Verant doesn't actively pursue ShowEQ users in the way that they might MacroQuest users. ShowEQ gives information that might make the game easier; however, it doesn't help you to exploit the game in the way that cheese.mac does.

So...that's my opinion, minority though it might be. My suggestion is simple: USE COMMON SENSE! It's like the police in real life: they will pull you over if you're going 80mph in a 55; however, they will probably ignore you for going 60 in a 55. :)

My other suggestion to the developers would be to remove the ability of MacroQuest to buy things from vendors. That would probably move MacroQuest pretty far down on Verant's priority list for things to nerf.

I can think of no macro (other than something used to exploit EQ's money system) that would require this feature.

Agree with you partly Amadeus. If you use MQ to make PP, then u have to accept the risk of being banned. I used bear meat & made enough to kit my Paladin out with nice armor. I didnt get caught - if i did then i would have accepted the punishment. I got what i needed & stopped.

However, there are many who dont use a macro program or Showeq who will not agree with what you say. These are exploits - period. Showeq is a 3rd party application to get an advantage over other players. Verant do go after them to a certain extent - they change how the encryption works, they make a few subtle changes here and there so less information is available within showeq. what they cant do is prevent you running a packet sniffer on your own network & there isnt really any way they can detect it.

My own opinion is that I now couldnt live without MQ or Showeq. My main use of MQ now is grouping 2 chars together and controlling both from same computer. Now is this an acceptable use of MQ or not? Some will feel its fine - others will say its cheating...

Forget about having a subscribed forum. If u find an exploit, then congrats - keep it to yourself and maybe a few trusted friends. as soon as you publish it, a week later, it gets nerfed.

Id be surprised if Verant employees bother to read our MQ forum and other similar ones - they just wait for somone to email them or petition them. There are plenty of people out there who dont like to see anyone make a quick buck or have it easy when having to combine 15,000 times - after all - they had to!!!
