Visual Studio only compiling progs?

first of all, im a poor poor man.

which leads me to asking? are the MS Visual Studios the only progs that you can use to compile? if so, what are they and where can i get them?

I saw some place that you can with SDK and a bunch of other stuff but just install .NET its ok I hate .net too :)

MQ auto update/compile/zip

.NET Uninstaller ( follows MS KB for manual removal of .NET )
useing SFX ZIP with BAT and msizap.exe utill

that link doesnt exist.
I dont understand why the forum takes days worth of reading in order to post a message.
I cant afford to buy the programs to compile. All the alternatives I have seen here lead to dead links.
You can provide help, be nice when doing so and keep in mind not everyone is a programmer?

Yes Ive read the wiki and I have also read "what is macroquest" but it doesnt tel me if I can walk into a zone 10 levels above me and slaughter without gettuing killed.

I am not surprised that a link from three years ago does not work. If you would be looking at something that is a bit more current you would probably find it a bit more helpful. Also, the wiki (that you have apparently read) has instructions on using the free MS compiler.

Regarding "it doesnt tel me if I can walk into a zone 10 levels above me and slaughter without gettuing killed" . . . I know for a fact that this is posted in 5000 places, but MQ is NOT a tool for "god mode" or "all weapons" or "+1000000 hp".

MQ is the art of automation. Simply put, I don't want to sit there and press the combine button 5 billion times while doing tradeskills. If you are looking for something other then automation, then you are sorely mistaken.

You are not following the directions as posted in the wiki and other places. I would also bet that if you searched these forums for the error that you are getting you would also gain some insight.

Regarding original Question in case it may help someone;

You may download a Free 90 Day trial of Visual Studio 5

Make sure you take advantage of the prompts to get windows updated and get the most recent service packs (for Windows and Visual Studio) after it is installed.
The DVD that you make via the download has those update options on it in the top menu that will show itself after the main installation. The links take you back to MicrosoftTM and the updates are semi automatic.

It's a great program and this is a great way to test it.

And yes VS 2005 with the service packs does work for MQ2 as stated elsewhere.
